CASE for SEA: 2025 Highlights and Impact

2025 has been a strong year for the Clean, Affordable, and Secure Energy for Southeast Asia (CASE for SEA) project. Across the year, we delivered 30 activities, produced 18 knowledge products, and engaged 62 key stakeholders, supporting the energy transition in Thailand, Indonesia, the Philippines, Viet Nam, and at the regional level.

Spotlight on Regional Collaboration

Collaboration underpins CASE for SEA’s work. We are especially proud of these two achievements:

We hosted the Regional Energy Transition Dialogue (RETD) 2025 in July which convened government representatives, energy experts, and stakeholders from Indonesia, the Philippines, Thailand, and Viet Nam to discuss key issues such as renewable integration, supply chain resilience and workforce readiness.

CASE for SEA contributed to the development of the Study on the Roadmap for Multilateral Power Trade in ASEAN, one of the outputs of the ASEAN Power Grid Advancement Programme (APG-AP). The study analyses how cross-border electricity trading can strengthen regional energy security, affordability, and sustainability. It outlines institutional, regulatory, and technical pathways, providing guidance for ASEAN Member States to design policies and mechanisms that support a phased approach—starting with subregional markets and building toward an integrated ASEAN-wide power trade system.

Country Spotlights: Driving Impact Locally

Indonesia

Indonesia Sustainable Energy Week (ISEW) 2025 Goes Regional – East Kalimantan. Watch the highlights:

Teaching for the Future (T4F), part of ISEW 2025, was an event held at Universitas Mulawarman that introduced students from all majors to diverse green career pathways. Through seminars and hands-on workshops, participants explored renewable energy topics, non-technical green roles, and practical ways to prepare for careers in sustainability.

Philippines

The 1st Philippine Energy Transition Dialogue, under the theme “Towards an Inclusive and Sustainable Energy Future: Navigating Policies and Shaping Developments in the Philippines”, gathered policymakers, national and local government officials, industry leaders, energy experts, and civil society organizations to affirm their collective commitment to accelerate the shift to clean, affordable, and secure energy in the country.

The Media Kapihan (Coffee Session) provided members of the media with accurate and contextualized information on energy investments, key policy reforms, and the growing momentum for renewable energy in the Philippines:

Thailand

Season 2 of the “Sa-ard Podcast” continues with interviews featuring energy stakeholders, bringing the total number of episodes to 47.

S.O.S.: Sound of Scorched Earth” was an immersive art exhibition that urged viewers to pause and listen to the Earth’s voice and reflect on the climate crisis. Visitors journeyed through the four elements — Soil, Water, Air, and Energy. The exhhibit was organised as part of Bangkok Climate Action Week 2025.

Viet Nam

In November, CASE supported the GIZ-led training course “Operation & Maintenance (O&M) of Wind Power Plants”, bringing together over 50 developers, technicians, academics, and consultants. The training shared international best practices, local lessons, and emerging digital tools to strengthen operational capacity and improve the performance of Viet Nam’s wind projects.

During Press Trip 2025, journalists visited the Vinacomin Nuibeo Coal Joint Stock Company (Quang Ninh) to observe modern mining operations, hear miners’ stories, and gain firsthand insight into the technological and human dimensions of the coal industry. The visit also sparked dialogue on safety, innovation, and the human elements of a just energy transition.

Thank you to our partners, stakeholders, and the communities we work with for your continued support of CASE’s mission!
